Thomas Knittel and Erika Blacksher

Board of Directors; Membership

Tom and Erika have been married for 24 years. They met in Kansas City in February 1998 and have since lived and worked in New York City, Seattle, and Los Angeles. Tom Knittel is a design architect focused on highly sustainable buildings for mission-driven clients. Erika Blacksher is an ethicist and engagement scientist focused on U.S. health inequities and deliberative solutions that aim to depoliticize public discourse on questions of public health. Tom and Erika first discovered Outpost Estates when taking long walks from their first LA house in Nichols Canyon, where they lived between 2013 and 2015. When they decided to return to LA in late 2021, they sought a house in Outpost Estates. They love that the neighborhood is ensconced in nature while also situated in the city center and has a rich history and iconic architecture. As it turns out, the people are amazing, too, which is why they agreed to serve on the ONA Board for membership duties. Tom is taking the lead, so all membership correspondence should be directed to him at [email protected]. Tom’s favorite project and labor of love is the USGBC-funded triple net-zero Children’s Center in Haiti.
