Radon Gas: A Neighbor’s Experience & Important Reminder

At one of the recent Outpost Neighborhood Association’s social events, a neighbor on Castilian Drive shared their alarming discovery of high radon gas levels in their home, particularly in basement or crawlspace areas. After reading about the dangers of radon—an odorless, radioactive gas linked to lung cancer—they decided to test their Outpost Estates home and found levels at 13 pCi/L, well above the EPA's recommended limit of 4 pCi/L.

Concerned for their health, they researched mitigation companies and chose one that offered quality service at a lower cost. Following the mitigation process, their radon levels dropped to a much safer 1.3 pCi/L. Given that radon exposure is the second leading cause of lung cancer, especially for smokers, the neighbor is relieved and highly recommends testing and mitigation for others who may be at risk.

Radon gas is often found in basements or crawlspaces with exposed dirt floors, where it can seep into homes undetected. If you're curious about radon levels in your home, consider getting a radon test (which can be purchased online, at a hardware store, or completed by a specialist). And if you want a referral to the company they used, reach out for more details by completing the contact form at the bottom of this page.
